i see posts here about how people are so mortified when they are acknowledged as being a regular customer somewhere that they never return. cowards. the employees at taco bell treat me like a celebrity. like royalty. i am their strange little pet customer who gets traded along as staff comes and goes. they know my car before i even speak in the drive-thru speaker. today i was 2 hours late and she ran over and squealed that she "thought i'd left them!" and that she "made my order with extra love!" and you what, she did

it's funny that this is getting notes again, because last night i went to the thai place in my neighborhood. it's run by a family and during covid times i ate there literally almost every day. later i cut back on eating out so much and hadn't been there in two years but last night we went and ate inside for the first time ever and the owner ran over to say hello and ask how i was, and repeated our old regular order. it was sweet. it's so easy to feel like you are an island, but stuff like this reminds you that you are part of a community.

"Our major problem covering Israel-Gaza right now... is that we can't get there." @amanpour pic.twitter.com/RLTLy6pCV3 — The Daily Show (@TheDailyShow) April 11, 2024ALT
حسام شبات @HossamShabat The biggest problem is not Western journalists being unable to enter, but the fact that Western media doesn't respect and value Palestinian journalists. My colleagues and I risk our lives every day to report on this genocide . No one knows Gaza like we do, and no one understands the complexity of the situation like we do. If you care about what's happening in Gaza, you should amplify Palestinian voices. We don't need Western journalists to tell our stories; we are capable of telling and reporting on our own stories.ALT
Erasure of Palestinian journalists and voices is part and parcel of genocide https://t.co/36dXWSFnG5 pic.twitter.com/DRiTiClvuU — Tameem | تميم (@TameeOliveFern) April 11, 2024ALT
One of the implications of claiming ‘independent’ western journalists are needed is that Palestinians are biased and incapable of reporting on their own extermination. Keeping western journalists out is to undermine the credibility of news from Palestinians *already* reporting. https://t.co/AoAH8eXn8F — David Lo Pun-ch Nazis (@helpmeskeletor) April 11, 2024ALT
Western journalists are trying to “we weren’t on the ground” their way into absolving themselves of their participating role in the genocide. Don’t let them off the hook just like that. They could’ve worked with Palestinian journalists. They could’ve gone to cover West Bank. — Tameem | تميم (@TameeOliveFern) April 11, 2024ALT
They could’ve stopped parroting IDF spokesperson’s statements uncritically. They could’ve stopped using dehumanising passive voice (ie haiku). They could’ve stopped whitewashing Israeli crimes. They could’ve stopped being a dick to their Palestinian guests (“do you condemn…”). — Tameem | تميم (@TameeOliveFern) April 11, 2024ALT

my absolute favourite FAVOURITE thing about john/alecto is that they are both each other’s fucked up little science project that got Very out of hand.

they are both simultaneously victor and the creature to each other at all times. they love each other they ARE each other, they are divorced and married at the same time. they (literally) can’t live without each other and each will be the other’s end. they still love each other despite this.

Finally got a clear shot of noonoo carrying her spring, it's her favourite toy

Spring.

The cover image to my new comic, The Things we Carve. The character is sitting on a pink tiled ground, looking off in the distance while surrounded by branches and swirling roots. Wearing a yellow tunic and dark magenta pants, their legs look like they’re being slowly carved out from a branch.ALT
Ropes and brooms hang from above, light casting down on them. Character and broomsquire, Frederick, in their workshop, carving away at a stick.ALT
Six panels of Frederick meticulously working at this stick, pulling out a draw knife for cutting longer strips, and a carving knife for tighter curves.ALT
Frederick looks at their new broom handle and sighs, placing it down. Frederick: It's missing something, but what... The front door of his workshop opens and the bells attached to the door DINGs. A person with a straw hat walks in. Frederick: Oh, Leonard. Welcome. Leonard: Thanks.ALT
Leonard, hangs his straw hat up on the wall: How's it going today? Finished up a broom handle, I see. Frederick: I cut a branch from out back this morning and whittled the twists at the top. It needs a lacquer, but I’m taking a moment before continuing. Leonard picks up the handle and says: This is masterful work, Frederick. The notches are even sanded. Which luxurious wizard is it for? Lawrence? Alistair? Frederick: ...Me. Leonard: Are you... happy with it? Frederick: No.ALT
Leonard: I think this is one of your finest works. It fits your love for simplicity and also has space to carry tools. Frederick: That’s the thing. There’s nothing else special about it. It has my signature look, but it doesn’t resonate with me. None of the previous tries did either. I know they’d make fine brooms, and that I could ride them with no trouble. I have that much confidence in my abilities, at least.ALT
Frederick holds the handle they made, in front of a bunch of other brooms they had created floating behind them in a picture frame: No matter how hard I try, they feel incredibly… impersonal. I’ve made so many brooms for clients over the years that making something for myself is asking for the impossible. Here’s freedom. Limitless possibilities. But no direction. It’s daunting to make something with no boundaries, because... what if I mess up? What if I make a fool of myself and my craft?ALT
Leonard: There will be no one to tell you that your work is bad. Frederick: But who will tell me that it’s GOOD? Leonard blankly stares at Frederick. Frederick: besides you, of course. Leonard: You need to trust in your friends Leonard holds Frederick's shoulder: And yourself. Leonard holds Frederick's hand: What you make is beautiful, but craftsmen like us will only ever see the flaws.ALT
Leonard pulls the broom handle away: Have you given new materials a thought? Frederick quietly looks down: I have but it doesn’t feel like me if I don’t do it in the wood I’m familiar with. Leonard thinks for a moment, then walks over to the workbench, taking off his bag: Come here… Leonard rolls out his bag and reveals to Frederick his handmade pens all tucked into small pockets.ALT
Leonard hands Frederick a pen: For you. Frederick: This is gorgeous… the material you’ve mixed. It’s inspiring. Leonard: It reminded me of you, so I did my best to model it after one of your whittling knives. Frederick: That’s so thoughtful… Leonard: And despite it having resin and wood layering, I thought this better represented how I saw you. Frederick blushes covering his mouth and staring intensely at it.ALT
Leonard scratches the back of his head, standing in front of a frame full of different pens he's made: Working through it can be effective, but sometimes a little perspective can give you the boost you need. Although you'll be trying new materials and crafts, the final product will always be unequivocally you. Frederick looks over at their pile of broomsticks in a bin: Can you… teach me how to do this? Leonard: Oh, it would be my pleasure. Frederick: Th-Thank you...ALT
Leonard and Frederick work together in a short montage, fusing resin into the cracks of a new broom stick.ALT
Frederick weaves the broomcorn and cuts off the ends.ALT
Leonard is lounging on some boxes, turning his head from his book, as Frederick says: It's done. Frederick shows off the new resin-fused broom.ALT
Leonard: I’ve never seen someone make a fused broom quite like this before. Are you sure you don’t want to take up pen turning while you’re at it? Frederick: Ha, no. Your lethe scares me. Leonard leans close: Fair enough. Why don't you give it a ride? Frederick blushes: Oh, I don't know. Leonard: Well, go on then! Frederick shuffles the broom under themselves, readying.ALT
Frederick begins to hover. Leonard watches Frederick: How do you feel about this one? Frederick: I'm not sure... Frederick pauses: It’s still not quite right. There is still some residue left from the resin that I didn't sand down. I might have to redo the lacquer... But you know... Frederick hovers closer: I like it.ALT
Frederick kisses Leonard while hovering on the broom: It’ll remind me of our time spent together.ALT

i tthink anyone who has ever gotten in trouble for using a red cross as a medical symbol in their video game should change it back to a red cross until the UN starts actually enforcing the gd geneva convention.

If a worker who isn't the owner says ANYTHING similar to "I'm not really supposed to do this but-" and then does something that helps you, under no circumstances inform the business, including through reviews. You tell them that the worker was polite, professional, the very model of customer service and why you like to go there. You do not breathe a word of the rulebreaking.
